Project Engineer – Land Development & Vertical Construction
Pay: $90,000–$110,000 annually (DOE)
Position Summary
The Project Engineer provides technical, coordination, and documentation support for land development and vertical construction projects, working closely with Project Managers and senior engineers. This role is intended for an experienced Project Engineer (3–5 years) with hands-on exposure to design coordination, permitting, and construction execution who can operate with minimal supervision and take ownership of assigned project components.
The Project Engineer supports projects from entitlement and site development through vertical construction, ensuring coordination between design teams, consultants, subcontractors, and field operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesLand Development
- Review and coordinate civil site plans including grading, drainage, paving, and utilities
- Coordinate with civil engineers, surveyors, utility providers, and municipal agencies
- Prepare and manage permit submittals; track comments, responses, and approvals
- Maintain working knowledge of zoning, site plan, grading, and municipal requirements
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with site logistics and construction planning
- Support value engineering and constructability reviews
Vertical Construction
- Coordinate between architectural, structural, and MEP design teams
- Review drawings to identify conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues
- Manage submittals, RFIs, drawing logs, and design clarifications
- Assist with subcontractor bid reviews, scope leveling, and buyout support
Construction Phase Support
- Support Project Managers with field coordination and documentation
- Participate in site meetings, inspections, and progress walks
- Track quantities, schedule impacts, and cost items as directed
- Assist with pay applications, change documentation, and closeout materials
Project Controls & Administration
- Maintain organized digital project files, logs, and documentation
- Track action items, deliverables, and permit status across multiple projects
- Assist with schedule updates and milestone tracking
- Support standardized processes, templates, and reporting tools
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in land development, site civil, and/or vertical construction
- Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and coordination workflows
- Experience supporting permitting and municipal coordination efforts
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting projects through both site development and vertical construction phases
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, or similar tools
- EIT certification or progress toward professional licensure
- Experience supporting DOT, municipal, or commercial development projects
What This Role Is Not
- This is not a Project Manager role
- This role does not require independent design authority
- This position supports and executes under the direction of Project Management and senior engineering staff
Reporting Relationship
Reports to a Project Manager, Senior Engineer, or Development Lead.
