Schedule: Full-Time 50hrs per week | Field-Based Mon-Fri w/ Saturdays when required

Position Summary
Unified Specialties is seeking Industrial Bridge Painting Helpers to support our bridge painting and abrasive blasting crews.
This is an entry-level, hands-on field position supporting jobsite mobilization, containment, abrasive recovery, equipment setup, material handling, cleanup, and general crew operations. No previous industrial painting or blasting experience is required.
This position provides hands-on training and an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to advance into an Industrial Bridge Painter / Blaster role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with mobilization and demobilization of blasting, painting, containment, and support equipment
- Load, unload, stage, and organize equipment and materials
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and teardown of bridge containment systems
- Assist with setting up compressors, blast pots, dust collectors, industrial vacuums, hoses, ventilation, and painting equipment
- Operate vacuums and recovery equipment to collect spent abrasive and debris
- Shovel, sweep, vacuum, and remove abrasive material from work areas
- Assist with handling, staging, and proper disposal of spent abrasive and jobsite materials
- Move and organize blasting, painting, vacuum, and air hoses throughout the work area
- Maintain containment and assist with preventing the release of abrasive, dust, debris, and overspray
- Support painters and blasters with tools, materials, equipment, and production needs
- Assist with equipment startup, shutdown, cleaning, and basic maintenance
- Inspect hoses, tools, containment components, and equipment for visible damage
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas
- Work from scaffolding, bridge platforms, aerial lifts, and other elevated areas when properly trained and authorized
- Participate in training to develop industrial painting, blasting, surface preparation, and equipment operation skills
- Follow all Company and project-specific safety, environmental, fall protection, respiratory protection, PPE, and containment requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
- No previous industrial painting or blasting experience required
- Construction, industrial, bridge, or other hands-on field experience preferred
- No industry certifications required
- Strong willingness to learn the industrial painting and abrasive blasting trade
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew
- Dependable attendance and ability to report to work on time
- Willing and able to perform physically demanding work
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability and willingness to work at heights
- Ability to work around abrasive blasting, industrial coating operations, heavy equipment, and active construction operations
- Safety-conscious with a willingness to follow all Company and project requirements
Training & Career Development
Helpers will receive hands-on exposure and training from experienced painters, blasters, foremen, and supervisors. Training may include:
- Abrasive blasting and surface preparation
- Blast-pot operation
- Industrial coating mixing and application
- Airless spray equipment
- Brush, roller, and stripe coating
- Surface cleanliness and coating thickness requirements
- Industrial coating systems
- Bridge containment and environmental controls
- Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
Qualified and motivated employees will have the opportunity to progress from Industrial Bridge Painting Helper to Industrial Bridge Painter / Blaster as they develop the required skills, safety awareness, reliability, and proficiency.
Safety & Medical Requirements
- Must be able to wear required respirators, blasting hoods, protective clothing, fall-protection equipment, hearing protection, and other PPE
- Must be able to meet applicable respiratory protection requirements, including required medical clearance and fit testing
- Must be willing and able to participate in Blood Lead Level (BLL) testing and applicable medical surveillance based on job duties and potential occupational lead exposure
- Must comply with all Company, project-specific, OSHA, environmental, and safety requirements
Physical & Work Requirements
- Frequent lifting, carrying, climbing, bending, kneeling, pulling hoses, handling equipment, vacuuming, and shoveling
- Ability to work for extended periods while wearing required PPE and respiratory protection
- Ability to work at elevated heights on bridges, scaffolding, platforms, and aerial lifts
- Work is primarily outdoors and may involve heat, cold, humidity, noise, dust, abrasive blasting media, coating fumes, traffic, heavy equipment, and limited work areas
- Days, nights, weekends, overtime, and travel may be required based on project needs
